Thought No.37 - Run Tubby Run

Last month during a visit to the public house, it was pointed out by some people (mostly Lisa Jones) that I am morbidly obese. Or have a pot belly at least which is unsightly.

Obviously this has come up before, spending most of my life slightly overweight, never exercising and always overeating. It's hard to explain but sometimes, like a light switch, you just click and decide to do something about it.

So I set my alarm clock to 6am, for every week day except Wednesday. As per doctor's advice (Dr Keating), I am required to have 'rest days'. I belive this is because when you run, you tear holes in your leg muscles and they rebuild to become stronger. These rest days allow this rebuild to go forward. At the moment the routine is 5 days on, 2 days off.

For the last 3 weeks I have been getting up early every weekday except wednesday, to do a 2 mile run around my area. Although at the moment, it is more of a jog, then walk, then run then walk etc. At the weekends I have been joining in a group run in the Forest. I am unable to keep up with them but intend to keep trying until I can.

The group consists with the most renowned atheltic team in the world. Featuring the following:

Prof. Jonathan Moore
Dr. Sam Snowden
Prof. Nick Sheppard
Sir Craig Stanley
Dr. Christina Keating
King Robert Bowring
Paul Isaac

If I've forgotten anyone then email me and I'll add to the list.

Before the new exercise routine, I had also started parking a mile away from my workplace. This was to ensure I did 2 miles of walking each weekday. This proved inaffective, but now having this in addition to my runs seems to be working much better.

I have also this week attempted to start a food and drink log. However, I don't think it's working out. Despite eating less than I did before, the food logs show that I am still having too much. I think I will continue trying to eat better but without documenting everything. There's being organised and then there's just driving myself crazy.

It's also come to my attention that I spend too much money. There have downloaded budgeting software to help me control my spending habits. As you probably know, the biggest factor is my desire for fast food. Well I intend to cut right down on this, as this is also contributing to the spare tire around my waist.

Well that's probably enough for now, you may think this new side of me won't last but I'm not so sure. Nothing is more important to me than my friends and I want to treat them better as well as myself.
