Thought No.35

I know this is way overdue so I'll try and make it a decent post.

As you may have heard last November I found a flat on a shared ownership scheme and instantly loved it. The block was built about 17 years ago, the flat itself is quite big and very homely. The area seems really nice as well, near enough to town also.

I got the mortgage offer in December, had the survey done etc. Solicitors are being extremely slow, still waiting for them to draw up the contract for me to sign. My boss says he's going to add a few more quid to my salary as well following my little promotion this month, so hopefully things won't get too tight.

Then onto my geeky side. In my latest project I have been reinstalling my server. It's now running Microsoft Hyper-V 2008 R2, which is basically just windows 2008 with no GUI or programs but with the Hyper-V role installed.

One of the virtual servers I've built is a Linux server. I decided I wanted my webserver to be independant from the other servers to minimize downtime. I figured if I was gonna make a new webserver I should do it properly for the first time. By this I mean adopting the best webserver software (and free) there is by demand.

Apache!

and what's the point in running apache if you don't run it on Linux, that's just what Linux does best. The flavour of Linux I have used is Slackware, I'm very fond of the name because I love slacking. One issue, however, is for some strange reason Linux filesystem is case sensitive. So many of the links etc on some of my sites became broken. I have just finished repairing all the broken links that I could find.

The website is now fully operational again. Of course you'll know the address: http://www.simons-avril-site.co.uk
