Well another battle with the support centres tonight. Let me start from the beginning. I was watching 'The Real Hussle' and they said that a Hussler could 'borrow' your phone and mess with settings to force you into phoning a premium line or something, and that they use your default PIN to do it. So as I was bored, I went about changing all the PIN's and password things on the phone to what I wanted, and discovered the default PIN wasn't 0000 or 1234 as I had assumed. So rather than Googling it like a normal IT person, I decided to keep attempting to guess it. After getting it wrong 3 times, it locks you out of your SIM card and you have to enter the PUK code. So I was getting a little concerned at this point and decided to use Google.
So I found you can find out the PUK code just by logging into the website. So then I had to register an account. Which I did and was able to get the PUK code easily. However, as the SIM card was out of my mother's old phone, it was registered in her name still. This of course isn't a major problem, however, I was looking into setting up a direct debit for my phone service anyway. So I don't want to be registering my bank details under an account which is owned by someone else!
So, I Googled again. I discovered which options to choose on the customer support line. So I spoke to a nice foreign lady, I think she sounded French but I'm not good with accents. So I spent about a minute on the phone and had to pass the phone over to my mother, to prove that she wanted the account transferred. Then the phone went back to me, and I had to give her all my details. She then proceeded to tell me about updates to the rates or something (very nice of them to do that on a chargeable call!) and halfway through I got cut off, most likely due to the poor signal in my house.
So hopefully that will still get done, as I'm not prepared to call them up again...
